Grok Bot can now search, read, and monitor X. No X connector needed.
Published October 8, 2026
On October 7, the official Grok Bot account on X announced that Grok Bot “can now search, read, and monitor X.” A follow-up post in the same thread says the feature is “Available for all users, with no need to set up the X connector.” Grok Bot’s first X integration, announced on August 29, required linking your X account and used X API credits. SpaceXSI, the company behind Grok Bot, has not published billing or quota details for the new built-in tools.
What happened
The announcement went up at 21:40 UTC on October 7 from the verified @bot account. It reads in full: “Grok Bot can now search, read, and monitor X.” It comes with a 12-second demo video. A second post in the thread suggests three uses: “Ask it to track feedback on your product, follow a breaking story, or send a weekly roundup of your industry.”
Two terms help here. An API (application programming interface) is the official channel software uses to pull data from a service like X, and X API access is paid for with credits. A connector, in Grok Bot’s documentation, gives a Bot “a structured way to work with supported services.” When SpaceXSI launched the X connector in August, connecting your X account created an X developer account for you if you did not have one, and paid Grok Bot users got “free X API credits to start.”
Why it matters: no X connector setup
The old hurdle was setup and cost. According to the announcement, you no longer need to set up the X connector just to have a Bot check what people are saying about a topic.
In a quick test on October 8, we ran a 10-post search with the built-in X tools. Our X API credit balance did not change, and the tool reported a per-user allowance of 1,000 X reads a day and 30 a minute. That is our own observation, not an official figure. SpaceXSI has not published these limits, and they may change.
How to use Grok Bot to monitor X
A routine, in Grok Bot’s documentation, “tells one Bot when to run a workflow,” on a schedule or, where supported, after an event. Three plain starting points, based on the official examples:
- Weekly roundup (as a routine): “Every Monday at 8:00 AM, search X for the week’s most discussed posts about electric bikes. Send me a short summary with a link to each post.”
- Product feedback: “Find X posts from the past seven days that mention [your product]. Group them into praise, complaints, and questions, and link each one.”
- Breaking story: “Follow X posts about [the story] for the next few hours. Tell me only when there is a new development, with the source post linked.”
Grok Bot’s documentation suggests using Test run on a new routine first, and keeping actions such as sending or publishing behind your approval.
What’s still unknown: limits, your own account, posting
Limits and billing. SpaceXSI has not published billing or quota details for the built-in X tools. Grok Bot’s documentation, plans page, and changelog did not mention them when we checked on October 8. Crypto Briefing also noted that the announcement did not specify limits on the number of queries per use.
Your own account. SpaceXSI hasn’t said whether the built-in tools can reach your own account. Its August announcement says the X connector lets a Bot read your timeline and check mentions, using an X developer account and X API credits, and that a separate X plugin manages bookmarks. Our Complete Grok Bot Setup Guide covers connecting only what each job needs.
Posting. The announcement covers searching, reading, and monitoring. It says nothing about posting, replying, or liking.
Accuracy. A summary is only as good as the posts behind it, and posts on X can be wrong. Open the linked posts before you act on a claim. For why a Bot should treat what it reads as information, not instructions, see keeping AI agents safe from prompt injection.
